CHURCH CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE and that will be proven on Sunday as Cairo First United Methodist Church moves its morning worship service to Davis Park. The church is inviting the community to join them for a special outdoor service, which will feature Bluegrass music. The Rev. Christy Bandy is pictured here showing off a t-shirt promoting the event.
Church is not confined to a sanctuary and that certainly will be the case this weekend as the congregation of Cairo First United Methodist Church prepares to worship in a downtown city park.
The Rev. Christy Bandy announced plans for a Fifth Sunday service this weekend to be held in Davis Park.
“In the spirit of the early church, we are taking our worship to our immediate community,” Rev. Bandy said.
Promoting the outdoor service with t-shirts emblazoned with the theme “Church Can Happen Anywhere!” the local Methodist congregation has extended an invitation to the entire community to join them for a special morning of worship and song.
Sunday’s service will feature Bluegrass music and Pastor Bandy promises that familiar hymns of faith and old time favorites will be sung Sunday.
Children’s activities are planned and a nursery ministry will also be provided, according to Rev. Bandy.
To kick off the service, a time of socializing will begin at 10:30 a.m. with coffee, orange juice and biscuits being served. The worship service will begin at 10:45 a.m.
“Come, now is the time to share together in worship. Please join us!” Pastor Bandy said.
Everyone planning to attend is encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.
Cairo First United Methodist Church hosts three worship services each Sunday, but on fifth Sundays one “Unity Service” is held. According to Bandy, she and the church’s Worship Team decided to move the worship service off campus for the fifth Sunday of September.
