For the last several weeks, University of Georgia masters degree student Sombal Bari has worked at Grady General Hospital where she has learned about the workings of such a medical facility. Bari, 23, says the experience has been “amazing.”
She says, “The staff was extremely welcoming, and I learned so much on how every employee contributes to making the hospital run more efficiently.”
Wide ranging is one way to describe Bari’s internship at Grady General. “I’ve attended hospital administration, medical staff, and department head meetings, developed knowledge of hospital financial systems, learned how to establish policies and procedures to maintain patient confidentiality, and been able to observe how different departments integrate workflows to ensure effective management of patients.”
Crystal Wells, administrator of Grady General Hospital, says it was a pleasure to have Bari work at the hospital, especially given her interest in the healthcare industry.
“We are proud of Grady General. It’s been an honor to share what our entire team does on a daily basis to ensure we are always providing our patients the best care,” Wells said.
Bari, daughter of Cairo physician Dr. Abdul Bari and Zeenat Ara, is working towards a dual degree Masters of Public Health and Social Work from UGA. She says after graduation, she plans to work and further her education in hospital/public administration.
Bari is a 2014 graduate of Cairo High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida State University.
