REPAIRS are currently underway at the CSX railroad crossing at 10th Street NW/SW. Officials say the crossing will reopen next Tuesday.
The CSX Railroad crossing at 10th Street NW/SW will remain closed until early next week, according to information provided to Cairo’s city manager, Chris Addleton.
City officials were notified last Wednesday that emergency repairs had been scheduled at the crossing, but due to conflicts with the paving company, the work is taking longer than expected.
Officials with Southern Commercial Development, LLC which works with CSX Transportation for traffic control and detour signage reported to local officials Tuesday that the paving would not be done until next Monday, July 29 and the crossing would reopen on Tuesday, July 30.
While the email sent to local officials described the repairs as “emergency repairs” no one locally has been briefed about the cause or extent of the damage to the crossing.
