DE’ZIAH ROSS enjoys the homemade slip-n-slide.
Keeping it cool outside can be a challenge during the summer months in Cairo, but the local Boys & Girls Club figured out a way to bring down the temperature and raise up the fun. The Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club of Cairo and Grady County called it Wet & Wild Wednesday last week and included water in as many activities as possible.
Club director Stephen Francis said, ”The kids enjoyed a 20-ft. water slide, a bounce house, a homemade slip-n-slide, face painting, Italian ice snow cones, grilled hotdogs and door prizes. It was a great opportunity to unite once again with the community in which we hold so dearly to our hearts! Our homemade slip-n-slide was made out of some the very tarp that was used after the destruction that Hurricane Michael left in October. We turned a negative into a positive, just as we try and teach daily at our JRBGC.”
The July 3 water day was also part of the club’s Open House, to which the community was invited. “We were also introduced to a lot of new kids that hopefully may become future JRBGC members,” Francis said. “We would like to thank all the staff, parents, volunteers and community supporters who helped to make this event a success. The kids had so much fun finally getting wet. It was truly a great day at the JRBGC!”
