THE FORMER Fred’s store, 429 2nd Avenue S.E., near the Fifth Street overpass will soon be home to a Save-A-Lot grocery store.
Eli Mazon of AJJMD Realty in Brooklyn, NY, says he is planning to remodel the 17,000 square foot building, which formerly housed Fred’s on Second Avenue SE, so that it can become a Save-A-Lot.
Mazon says he hopes to have the supermarket open by late August or early September. Construction is expected to begin next month.
“It will have a standard (Save-A-Lot) look. They’re beautiful,” Mazon said.
Once open, the store will employ approximately 15 people, Mazon said, with plans to operate the store seven days a week, year-round, 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.
“Those are the plans to start with. We will adjust as needed,” Mazon said. Priority hires at this time are the store manager and butcher positions, he said. All potential employees should contact Mazon via email at eli.mazon@hotmail.com to file an application.
Mazon contends Save-A-Lot offers a full line of food items, “from chips to meat,” at a price 10-20 percent lower than its competitors.
