JANET BOUDET will celebrate her 30th anniversary at Roddenbery Memorial Library as its interim director.
The director of Roddenbery Memorial Library spent her last day on the job Friday, retiring after leading the institution for nearly eight years. Pam Grigg reportedly submitted her letter of retirement to the library’s Board of Trustees in early May. Janet Boudet, long time RML associate director, has been named interim director. The trustees are expected to meet on June 4 to determine how they wish to proceed regarding the directorship.
Boudet says she is interested in the position permanently, but is uninterested in relocating to Grady County from Leon County, Fla. Boudet has commuted to work in Cairo since 1989 and will celebrate her 30th anniversary at RML on May 31.
She was first hired at the library as a public services librarian, but was soon named assistant director to Dave Eden. When Eden left in 1992, Boudet served as interim director for about five months until Alan Kaye came on board in July 1992 as director, a position he held until 2010.
Raised in Fort Pierce, Fla., Boudet says she originally planned to become a music therapist and after earning her associate’s degree at a community college near her home, transferred to Florida State University where she eventually changed majors to child development. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she says she continued her studies and earned a masters in library science.
‘I planned on being a children’s librarian, but started in reference and adult services and loved it,” Boudet says. Boudet and her late husband, Scott, are the parents of two adult daughters.
Boudet says the library will hold a retirement party for Grigg during the library’s official open house celebrating its remodeling. The open house will be an all day affair on Thursday, July 11, with a formal retirement party late that afternoon. Boudet says Grigg retired to spend more time with her new grandchild who lives in New Hampshire and with her husband who retired earlier this year.
