THE CAST OF “THE LITTLE MERMAID, JR.” is preparing to take the stage Friday night. The Washington MIddle School/Shiver Drama Club is under the direction of Austin Harrell.
This weekend, a group of middle school thespians will take audiences down under the sea with their production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” at the Cairo High School Auditorium.
The show is presented by the Washington Middle School/Shiver Drama Club under the direction of Austin Harrell with musical direction by Joshua Moore and choreography by Hannah Harrison. Ms. Pat Orr is executive producer.
Main characters in the musical include: Kennedi Smart as Ariel; Corrine Carrillo as Ursula; Clyde Gray as King Triton; Ellis Hendrix as Sebastian, Mason Best and Eddie Connell double cast as Scuttle; Jenna Melvin as Flotsam; Jamonica Green and Kaprice Williams double cast as Chef Louis; Hailey Russo as Flounder; Abigayle Jackowski as Jetsam; Colin Moore as Grimsby; and Maci Dawson as Carlotta.
Portraying princesses are: Breahna Williams, Charnelle Morgan, Sara Maxwell, Keya Hunter, Kyra Merritt and Lily Carrillo. Amberlin Pipkin is Seahorse; Jane Waver Willis is Junior Mermaid; and Keyshawn Mitchell is Pilot.
Aaron Hudson is guest starring as Prince Eric.
Members of the chorus ensemble are: Susana Gaspar, Nylivia Corker, Sofia Lopez-Morales, Ana Laura Lopez, Alicia Ovozco, Shyla Roan, Raven Johnson, Destiny Williams, Jaymin Fleming, Terrance Peoples, and Jhe’Kyari Anderson.
The Company of “Merfolk” and Sailors includes: Stephen Hicks, Beyonce Morris, VaLeyah Palmore, Camron Willias and Gabby Candelaria.
Stage manager of the show is Maelee Sellers; Alondra Ortiz is prop mistress; and backstage crew includes Truett Hendrix, Kyle Boyett, Joseph Hecking, Anna Rinker, Alondra Ortiz, Merritt Helton and Marisol Gaspar.
Layton Stevenson and the WMS STEM Class were responsible for set construction, and Gabe Russo for set artwork design.
The musical is based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen, and is synopsized, “In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home, and her fins, behind and live in the world above. But, first, she’ll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking.”
The show will take the stage at Cairo High School on Friday and Saturday, March 22-23, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 24, 2:30 p.m. Tickets, sold at the door, are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
