Not long after a tornado swept through Cairo, city firefighters were dispatched to a house fire in southwest Cairo.
At approximately 9:49 p.m. Sunday, March 3, city firemen were dispatched to a structure fire at the intersection of Eighth Street S.W and Adams Avenue S.W.
According to Cairo Fire Chief Bill Schafer, upon arrival firemen found the home approximately 80 percent involved and flames were coming from several windows.
Firemen entered the residence and quickly extinguished the fire, but the home had already suffered heavy damage. Chief Schafer says the residents admitted to leaving a candle burning and unattended.
It took fire crews approximately two hours to clear the scene.
