2019-2020 School calendar is approved
The first day of classes for Grady County students next school year will be Friday, Aug. 2. That’s just one of the important dates on the school calendar for the 2019-2020 school year approved by the local board of education.
School teachers will return on Monday, July 29 for a professional development day, then spend July 30 to Aug. 1 as teacher workdays.
Other highlights of the calendar include a full week for Fall Break in October, the Thanksgiving holiday, and Spring Break in April. Other holidays include the traditional ones for Labor Day in September and Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January. Teachers and students will also bee off for Memorial Day in May.
In addition to the beginning of the school year, teachers will have workdays or professional development days on Jan. 6-7, 2020, March 12-13, 2020, and May 26-27, 2020.
The last day of school for students will be May 22, 2020.
Grady County school teachers voted on three calendar options and overwhelmingly approved this one, which Grady County School Superintendent Dr. Kermit Gilliard then submitted for approval to the board of education during their regularly scheduled board meeting Tuesday.
