No arrests yet in New Year’s Day murder of a 62-year-old Cairo man

The New Year’s Day murder of Donald Vandergriff of Cairo remains under investigation, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
No arrests have been made in the death of Vandergriff, 62, found dead in his home at 480 Sixth St. SW at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1.
“We are currently awaiting evidence to be processed at the GBI Crime Lab,” states Jamy Steinberg, GBI Special Agent in Charge. “Nothing else to report at this time.”
The GBI is in charge of the investigation. Steinberg has not released how Vandergriff was killed. He has said agents and officers have interviewed many neighbors and associates in their collection of evidence.
