Drew only candidate to qualify as of Tuesday

As of Tuesday night, Cairo businessman Phillip Drew is the lone candidate to qualify for the Grady County District 5 County Commission seat in the upcoming special election.
Qualifying ends this Friday, Jan. 18 at noon.
Drew announced last week his intention to qualify and on Monday morning he inked the qualifying documents with Election Superintendent Denise Maddox.
The recent resignation of District 5 Commissioner T.D. David, who is fighting poor health, created the vacancy and need for a special election. David was the only candidate to qualify last year for the District 5 post and his new term began Jan. 1.
Whoever is elected in the special election will fill the remainder of David’s unexpired term.
The qualifying fee is $179 and the special election will be held Tuesday, March 19.
