Republicans appear to prevail in runoff

With 91 percent of the state’s precincts reporting, it appeared the republican candidates for Secretary of State and Public Service Commission held off their democratic challengers in Tuesday’s general election runoff.
With some of the state’s largest precincts yet to report and a potentially large number of absentee ballots yet to be counted, Brad Raffensperger led John Barrow in the Secretary of State election 733,426 to 645,053.
Less than 20 percent of Grady County voters cast ballots in the runoff but those who did highly favored Raffensperger. In local, unofficial returns, the republican garnered 1,825 votes to 767 for Barrow, the democrat.
Incumbent Public Service Commissioner Chuck Eaton appeared to have won re-election over Lindy Miller, 727,670 votes to 643,046 with 91 percent of the precincts reporting.
The local results were highly favored toward Eaton with 1,826 to Miller’s 744.
