Students set to return to school next Monday
As Grady County recovers from Hurricane Michael, the county’s public schools remain closed this week to students.
Year-round personnel reported to work Monday and teachers will report back today, Oct. 17, and Thursday, but will be off on Friday, according to Grady County School Superintendent Dr. Kermit Gilliard.
The plan is for the county’s seven schools to welcome back students on Monday. Schools were closed last week for Fall Break, and due to the massive storm damage and loss of electricity, schools have remained shuttered.
During Tuesday night’s board of education meeting, board member Jeff Worsham asked if the days missed would have to be made up.
“It’s my understanding that we don’t have to make up these days because it’s due to a disaster,” Dr. Gilliard said.
