No arrests in recent shooting death of a Cairo man
Four weeks after the shooting death of a Cairo man, law enforcement officials have no suspect in custody and are still awaiting information from the State Crime Lab. Willie “Russ” Bell was killed while in his yard on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 9. A city contractor found Bell lying outside his home at 696 15th St., S.W., and called authorities.
The GBI has sent evidence to the State Crime Lab to be analyzed, but results are still unknown. Results of an autopsy did confirm Bell was shot, but the number of times has not been released by the GBI.
Jamy Steinberg, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 9 office in Thomasville, says he has no update on the case this week.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call G.B.I. Thomasville at 229-225-4090 or the Cairo Police Department at 229-378-3096.
