Syrup City Splash Day is Saturday
Due to necessary repairs, weather delays and other issues, local youth who typically enjoy spending the summer cooling off in the Holder Park Pool did not get to do so this year, but on Saturday local residents will have the chance to enjoy the renovated pool during what is being billed as the first annual Syrup City Splash Day.
The event begins at noon with the opening of the pool, which will remain open until 4 p.m. Admission is $1 per person and all proceeds will benefit the newly formed Cairo Youth City Government organization.
Saturday’s event is a project promoted by Cairo Mayor Booker Gainor.
“Despite the fact that Holder Park’s pool will only open for one day, it is still a win for our community, as a whole. The pool overcame many obstacles such as weather delays and additional unforeseen maintenance issues. I am elated the children will be able to enjoy a fun day by the pool. Our youth’s, adults’, and seniors’ quality of life is my top priority,” Mayor Gainor said.
“I would like to thank the Cairo City Council, City Manager Chris Addleton, Irwin & Mahaffey Construction Company, Dollar Business Solutions, Pat Mitchell, Paul Davis, Clay Poole, and The Thomasville YMCA for their time, efforts, and labor getting the pool up and operating,” Mayor Gainor said.
