Local man killed in two-vehicle accident on Pine Park Road

A Cairo man was killed and another injured in an early morning head-on collision on Pine Park Road last week.
Mark Andrew Coleman, 29, died in the accident, which happened at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Mauricio Avila, 24, was injured in the wreck while driving a 2004 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck.
Coleman was driving a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck East on Pine Park Road and Avila was driving West as they approached the intersection with Midway Road, the GSP report states.
Coleman’s truck traveled off the north side of the roadway then overcorrected, causing his truck to rotate counter clockwise crashing head-on into Avila’s truck, according to the GSP. Coleman was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected after the impact, troopers report.
Avila’s truck tipped onto the driver’s side after impact. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was taken by ambulance to Archbold Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries. Coleman was taken to Grady General Hospital.
Funeral services for Coleman were held Saturday at Eastside Baptist Church. His complete obituary appears on Page A9 of this issue of The Messenger.
