9th graders invited to get a “Jump Start” on school

Parents and guardians of upcoming freshmen at Cairo High School are being encouraged to send their student to a second annual 9th Grade Jump Start Camp to be held next week.
The camp runs Monday, July 9  through Thursday, July 12 from 8:30 a.m. until noon with a lunch served each day.
“I am excited about this year’s upcoming 9th grade class and look forward to meeting each one of them. I personally invite each upcoming 9th grader to attend the Jump Start Camp,” CHS Principal Chris Lokey said.
This is the second school term that features the new 9th Grade Academy concept at CHS.
“I sincerely hope more of our freshmen will capitalize on this opportunity to heighten their awareness and sharpen their foundational skills to enhance the beginning of their high school experience. This year’s Jump Start Camp will grant the students a chance to place some additional tools in their toolbox,” CHS Assistant Principal, Chief Andrew Jones, said.
Camp offerings include Math and English Tutorials, Test Taking Skills, Study Skills, Goal Setting, Time Management, and Growth Mindset. Participating students will also take a Syrupmaker 101 class during the four-day camp. The class covers all things Syrupmaker and emphasizes school traditions, pride and expectations.
CHS Guidance Counselor Crystal Holt is also encouraging all 9th graders to take part in the camp.
“Ninth grade is a pivotal year for students because it is the precursor to the success of their high school career. We are excited to offer the CHS 9th Grade Jump Start program for the class of 2022. This four day program is designed to build excitement for the start of high school and to ignite school spirit. The Jump Start program will help 9th graders smoothly transition and succeed in their high school experience. This program offers options to benefit the entire school and build a positive culture where all students belong,” Ms. Holt said.
Chief Jones and Ms. Holt say a campus tour will be given to the campers and students who take part will have first choice of lockers for the 2018-2019 school term.
Student participants will also have fun activities and will be entered to win special prizes including iPods and more.
