Commissioners to meet with Taylor to discuss solid waste

Grady County commissioners are planning to hold a work session next month in order to discuss a variety of items outside of a regular business meeting.
Among the agenda items up for discussion is holding all commission meetings in the evening rather than one meeting a month in the morning and the second meeting of the month in the evening.
Commissioner Keith Moye had broached the subject last month and on Tuesday night Commissioner June Knight asked how the other board members felt about it.
Chairman Ray Prince suggested that topic be added to the workshop agenda under items for further discussion.
The board will also hear a presentation from Chris Taylor of Taylor Waste Services about the services his firm could provide the county in handling its solid waste collection and disposal. Taylor currently serves the cities of Cairo and Whigham with weekly garbage and trash pickup.
Grady County Clerk Carrie Croy said other workshop discussion items will include performance evaluations for county employees, renewal of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, and the possibility of a Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
The work session is currently set for March 6 at 1 p.m.
