CORRECTION

In the Oct. 4, 2017 edition of The Cairo Messenger, the newspaper reported that absentee ballots in the upcoming election for the Grady EMC Board of Directors filled out with a check or an X would not be counted. This was an error. The ballot instructions indicated the “correct” way to select the candidate of choice is to fill in the box and checking the box or placing an X in the box would be “incorrect.” However, according to Grady EMC President and General Manager Thomas A. (Bo) Rosser Jr., absentee ballots with check marks and X’s will be hand counted by the third party balloting company, Survey and Ballot Systems. Although that procedure is not specifically outlined in the Grady EMC Election Procedures, Rosser points out that the procedures do “outline that any ballot marked which is reasonably marked will be counted. That process is governed by the elections committee and was signed off by the third-party.” He also says that votes cast on the day of the meeting, will be counted by the Grady EMC Elections Committee.
