Two local congregations to join for hymn sing, dinner

The congregations of two local United Methodist Churches are coming together next week to celebrate 154 years of Methodism in this community.
Cairo First United Methodist Church is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year and on the night of Wednesday, Oct. 4, will join with the congregation of Bold Springs United Methodist Church for a family night supper and old fashioned hymn sing.
“The Cairo First United Methodist Church sprung forth from the Bold Springs Church 150 years ago. It is only fitting that we join together to celebrate,” the Rev. Whit Byram, pastor of Cairo FUMC said Tuesday.
Bold Springs UMC was organized in 1863 and the Cairo church in 1867.
A catered dinner will be served from 5:45 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. in the Bold Springs Fellowship Hall and then the two church families will meet in the sanctuary for the sing.
Cairo FUMC Minister of Music Dr. Ed Lyon will conduct the singing and Ed Self will play the piano. Requests from the audience will be accepted.
Cairo FUMC Youth Minister Kyle Parker and his youth will also take part in the program.
“We invite all members of both churches, former members, and friends of the two congregations to join with us in this special evening of food, fellowship, and hymns,” the Rev. Byram said.
For more information or to make reservations for the meal call Cairo FUMC at 229-377-3051.
