Taylor working to catch up on storm debris pickup
The city’s new vendor for garbage and trash collection has been running wide open since taking over the service Sept. 1.
On the heels of Taylor Waste Service assuming the responsibility for the garbage and trash pickup in the city, Tropical Storm Irma blew through leaving tons of yard debris.
Cairo City Manager Chris Addleton said that Chris Taylor of Taylor Waste and his crews have been working overtime to catch up on the collection of storm debris.
“He’s had his plate full with storm debris, but they’ve done a good job working to get it up. I think by Monday he will be able to return to his regular pick up schedule,” Addleton told city councilmen Monday night.
In related business, Councilman James H. (Jimmy) Douglas requested the Community Service Department repair dug out areas along city streets caused by city crews when picking up trash and yard waste. Some areas are so severe it has caused erosion that is damaging city streets, according to Douglas.
