Georgia Lt. Governor Casey Cagle

Grand openings of new facilities on the campuses of two local schools will be celebrated tomorrow.
Georgia Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle will be here Thursday to attend the grand opening of the new College and Career Center at Cairo High School and the public is encouraged to attend. The ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony begins at 2:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to park in the CHS student parking lot in front of the new facility. Enter the parking lot from the new Sixth Avenue S.E. entrance.
The College and Career Center will be open for guided tours until 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Grady County School System was awarded a $3.15 million grant from the state for the College and Career Academy project and the remainder was funded with proceeds from the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
Then, at 3:30 p.m. an open house at Southside Elementary School will begin with a ribbon cutting in front of the new administrative building to be held at 4 p.m.
Guided tours at Southside will be available from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m.
The Southside project was funded through Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax proceeds.
“We hope the community is as proud of these new facilities as we all are. The board has made significant investments in these new facilities and we welcome the community to come and see the new buildings for themselves. These new facilities will serve the needs of our system for generations to come,” Grady County School Superintendent Dr. Kermit Gilliard said this week.
