City is waiving tipping fees for a week dedicated to citywide cleanup

City of Cairo residents who have scrap tires, household appliances and other household goods that need to be disposed of are being encouraged to take part in the city’s upcoming citywide cleanup and amnesty week.
Landfill tipping fees are being waived for city residents who want to clean up their properties and properly dispose of unwanted household appliances, home goods and even scrap tires by bringing them to the city’s landfill, located at 1593 Sixth Ave. N.W.
City officials say that no tractor tires or rims will be accepted. All other tires, white goods and household items will be accepted.
The cleanup and amnesty week begins this Saturday, Aug. 26 and runs through Friday, Sept. 1.
“Tipping fees will be waived for city residents only,” Cairo City Manager Chris Addleton said and proof of residency will be required.
The landfill will be open Saturday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and then next week, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m.
“We encourage all city residents to take advantage of this opportunity to clean up and dispose of unwanted items properly. The best news is it’s free,” Addleton said.
