County commission is hit with health concerns

The Grady County Commission is operating at less than full strength due to the illness of two members.
Grady County Commission Chairman Elwyn Childs recently suffered a stroke following shoulder surgery and as The Messenger went to press this week was a patient at Grady General Hospital after suffering a fall at his home.
Chairman Childs is expected to recover from the stroke, but will need extensive therapy. His wife, Yvonne Childs, had reported prior to the fall this week that the chairman was making progress each day.
Commissioner LaFaye Copeland is battling breast cancer and has been absent from several meetings as she underwent chemotherapy treatments.
Copeland was able to attend Tuesday’s meeting, but was wearing a protective mask to ward off a possibility of infection. Commissioner Copeland was not able to attend the public hearing on the proposed tax increase Tuesday night.
She reported this week that she has three more treatments to go. “I keep telling folks to keep sending up those prayers,” Commissioner Copeland said this week.
