Police make arrest in road rage incident
Cairo Police arrested a 54-year-old Cairo woman after she apparently tried to force another woman driving a pickup truck off the road. A caller to 911 reported the two drivers had had an altercation of some sort and were driving recklessly Monday at 3:36 p.m.
Cairo Police Officer Brandon Griffin says he saw the Ford Taurus and Chevrolet pickup truck on Fifth Street SE traveling south. Griffin states that when he drove up behind the Taurus, he activated his emergency lights, but the driver of the Taurus failed to pull to the side of the road. Instead, she drove into the north bound lane next to the pickup truck and swerved several times “attempting to hit the Chevrolet truck” he reports.
Griffin states the Taurus finally stopped and the driver “jumped out of her vehicle and ran towards the Chevrolet truck.” Griffin charged the driver of the Taurus with reckless driving and disorderly conduct. The 51-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was not charged in the incident.
