Back-2-School Blitz is July 29

Grady County Family Connections with Cairo High School is hosting the 8th Annual Grady County Back-2-School Blitz later this month. During the event, students receive a bag of school supplies for free.
Sponsors who fill the school supply bags are: CNS, GSAAP, Wal-Mart, Cairo Kiwanis Club, Grady General Hospital, and WellCare Health Plans. The Back-2-School Blitz will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Cairo High School’s gymnasium, 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
“Our purpose of this event is to provide Grady County students and parents with the necessary tools to start a successful school year. Our goal is to provide one bag of school supplies for each child and provide valuable resources and information from our local schools and throughout the community, region and state,” states Nola Daughtry, executive director of the local Family Connections.
Supplies in the bags include # 2 pencils, spray hand sanitizer, wide ruled notebook paper, blue and black pens, and pocket folders. A parent must accompany the child in order to receive the supplies.
In addition to the supplies, this community-wide event offers free health screenings, informational displays and more.
“Grady Family Connection is so proud the sponsors and our community value the children in Grady County. The key to successful children is literacy. Education is the main artery to a growth in our citizens and community,” says Daughtry.
Of the children living in Grady County, 41.1 percent live in poverty, according to 2015 data. “That is why there is a need in Grady County. The state of Georgia poverty rate in 2015 is only at 24.7 percent. Education is the one thing no one can ever take away from you in life and education and reading ability is the key to a student and adult success,” Daughtry contends. “Thank you Grady County for valuing your community!”
Sponsors also provided FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES yard signs and flyers posted around town, according to Daughtry.
