Bond hearing for murder suspect scheduled for April 13

A Cairo man arrested for the January murder of Elijah Denzel Smith of Whigham will go before a superior court judge here next week. Nicholas Lequinte Perry will have a bond hearing on Thursday, April 13, at 9 a.m. in the Grady County Courthouse.
Perry, 20, faces charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held in the Mitchell County Jail.
Perry was arrested in Tallahassee, Fla., six days after Smith’s Jan. 7 shooting death.
Perry and Smith were together in the 300 block of Seventh Street NE in Cairo when a disagreement between the two erupted and Perry allegedly shot the 25-year-old Smith. Investigators tracked down Perry in Tallahassee on the evening of Friday, Jan. 13, and took him into custody without incident. He was later extradited to Georgia.
