City officials remain baffled by strong chlorine odor in water

Complaints of high chlorine levels in city water last month remain a mystery to city officials.
Cairo City Manager Chris Addleton said he was alerted to complaints from city residents on Jan. 22 that the city water had a strong odor of chlorine.
Addleton said crews verified the required amount of chlorine was all that was being injected into the city drinking water supply.
“We were spot on on the levels. We just don’t know what would have caused it, but we flushed some hydrants to see if that would help and we haven’t had any complaints since,” Addleton told city councilmen Monday night.
