Gravenstein stepping down from city planning commission

Council taps
Hansel Bearden
as replacement
City of Cairo Planning Commissioner Ed Gravenstein, who has served on the zoning board since April 2014, has requested to step down prior to the expiration of his term and on Monday night the Cairo City Council appointed a replacement.
Gravenstein, a retired public educator, was slated to serve through Dec. 31, 2017.
The council voted unanimously this week to accept the recommendation of Cairo city manager Chris Addleton to appoint Hansel Bearden to fill the remainder of Gravenstein’s unexpired term.
“I think it is important to have a resident of the northwest section on the planning commission,” Addleton said in recommending Bearden.
Bearden is affiliated with Southern Insurance of Cairo and resides on Crine Boulevard N.W.
Bearden joins the other planning commissioners including James Gerth, Tom Brown, Larry Brown and Larry Simmons.
