Adults to pay more for meals at schools

Adults who eat meals in Grady County School System cafeterias during the 2016-2017 school term will have to pay more for their meals, but nothing that will break the bank.
The Grady County Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday night to increase the price of adults’ meals from $1.75 for breakfast to $2.00 and from $3.00 for lunch to $3.50.
According to School Superintendent Dr. Kermit Gilliard, the school nutrition program cannot use federal funds to subsidize the cost of adult meals so a sufficient charge must cover the cost of food.
School officials report that in 2015-2016 the prices charged failed to cover the food costs by approximately $7,000, which resulted in the need for the increase.
All Grady County students eat breakfast and lunch for free.
