Georgia Tech chaplain Derrick Moore to headline Rotary’s Top Ten banquet

Derrick Moore

A former NFL running back and the current chaplain for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets is coming to Cairo next week to speak to several groups of Cairo High School students and is headlining the Top Ten Banquet, all thanks to Cairo Rotary Club.
Derrick Moore will have two programs for Cairo, first for extra curricular groups at CHS, from sports to student clubs, says Rotarian Chuck Thomas.
“This is a unique opportunity for these students and faculty to experience this caliber of speaker for free. This message will connect with all in attendance, not just sports members. Cairo Rotary Club will be underwriting the entire cost of both events,” Thomas says.
Moore was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 1992. He also played for the Detroit Lions and the Carolina Panthers, where he holds the expansion rushing record for a running back. Moore also played for the Arizona Cardinals.
He was an All-American running back for Northeastern State University and had the unique opportunity of being the keynote speaker at his own commencement.
At Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Moore is an advisor and counselor on behalf of the Athletic Department and according to his bio, provides assistance in the areas of leadership, team building, relationship development and personal fulfillment.
A sought after motivational and inspirational speaker, Moore is also the author of “The Great Adventure,” “It’s Possible,” and “Raise Him Up.”
The Top Ten Banquet is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the CHS cafeteria.
