A special program on public schools in the early days of Grady County will be presented next week at the monthly meeting of the Grady County Historical Society.
Retired assistant school superintendent Demetrius Cox will be the guest speaker and historical society officers say local residents may be surprised at the number of schools that operated in the county in years gone by.
Mrs. Cox retired last June after a lengthy tenure with the Grady County School System. She will be the guest of program chairwoman Carolyn Hopkins.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday and the historical society meets in the Cairo City Council Chambers located inside the Roddenbery Building on North Broad Street.
