Time to retire tattered or faded American flags
Whigham Boy Scout Troop 383, Cairo High School Navy Junior ROTC, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8433 and the Jake Poller American Legion Post 122 are planning a flag retirement ceremony in May.
The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Boy Scout House on the Whigham Rattlesnake Roundup grounds.
Flags that are torn or deteriorated should be retired, according to officials. Flags in need of retirement may be deposited at Troop 383 Scout House, Hester Insurance Agency, Taylor Hydraulics, Kingfish Corner or call 229-377-3474 to arrange pick up.
Flags will be accepted until April 28.
Veterans remind local citizens to observe the flag code and retire flags when they become tattered, frayed or faded.
