Historical Society guest speaker to inform members on pecan oil and pecan truffles

Pecans – Georgia grown and local.  This is the subject of the Grady County Historical Society’s monthly meeting next Tuesday night.
Mrs. Mollie Cohen, of Pecan Ridge Plantation, will be the guest speaker at the Feb. 9 meeting.  Cohen will tell how her husband, Eric, and brother-in-law, Rob, were raised working in the pecan orchards and how they have expanded their offerings from international markets to producing pecan oil, a light and healthy buttery, nutty flavored oil.
Dr. Tim Brenneman, Professor of Pathology with the University of Georgia, discovered pecan truffles in Georgia. With their large orchards this interested Eric and Rob.  Come and learn about their dog, Tate, who is trained to hunt truffles.
Mrs. Cohen is a graduate of UGA with a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught for 11 years before joining the family business as Director of Marketing and Sales.  She also serves on the Board of Commission for Georgia’s Nonpublic Post-Secondary Education Commission.
The Historical Society will meet Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Cairo City Council Chambers inside the Roddenbery Building on North Broad Street.
