Boys and Girls Club has new director

Stephen Francis

The man who has worked as interim director of the Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club in Cairo has been named the club’s new director.
Stephen Francis has served as interim director of the youth organization for approximately two months.
“I would like to thank everyone for their care and support throughout my time as Interim Director of the Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club,” Francis says. “It is my pleasure accepting the wonderful opportunity of being the new director of the Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club.”
Francis says he is also proud to welcome Mary Addison as a new staff member of the club.
This week, the club is celebrating what they are calling “I Have a Dream” week in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Francis says, “The members are busy learning history of Dr. King. Activities include coloring pictures, sharing and writing about their particular dreams and ambitions and making posters of quotes by Dr. King, himself.”
Parents of club members are donating $1 each for an “I have a dream” name tag that will be displayed on the club window through Jan. 22. Francis says he is hoping to display at least 200 names of supporters.
The Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club of Cairo-Grady County is located at Holder Park, 101 Sixth Ave. in Cairo. For more information, call the club office at (229)378-3099.
