Car stolen here found last week in Flint River
One day a Cairo man reported his Chevy Impala was stolen and the next day it was found floating in the Flint River.
The grey, 2013 4-door Impala was reported stolen around 2:25 a.m., Thursday, according to Cairo Police reports. The owner told officers the car was taken while he was visiting a friend at 901 MLK Blvd.
When he arrived at the residence around 1:45 a.m., the Impala owner said he parked his car, left the keys inside the vehicle and went inside the home. When he tried to find the car about 40 minutes later, it was gone.
The next afternoon, on Friday, Nov. 13, someone reported to Bainbridge Public Safety officers that a car could be seen floating in the Earle May Boat Basin of the Flint River. The caller said part of the submerged car was visible in the water.
After Bainbridge Public Safety officers and a tow truck operator pulled the Impala out of the water they learned from the car’s tag information that it had been reported stolen from Cairo.
Anyone with information about how the car ended up in the Flint River should call Cairo Police at (229)378-3096 or Bainbridge Public Safety at (229)248-2038.
