Tornado touches down in Elpino

Sunday afternoon’s weather turned dangerous for some local residents when a tornado touched down briefly in the north Grady County community of Elpino. The twister was reported around 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of Pine Level Road and Ridge Road.
The Property owned by James F. Tuggle on Ridge Road took the brunt of the tornado strike. It destroyed a greenhouse and ripped portions of tin roof from two barns in his yard. The force of the winds also pulled a porch from the foundation of a brick home. The roof of the home also suffered some damage.
According to Yolanda Amadeo, chief meteorologist for WALB-TV, the National Weather Service classified the tornado as an E-F0 with winds of 75 MPH. Another brief tornado touched down in the Colquitt County community of Hartsfield and damaged a home there an hour later. Information from Amadeo indicates this tornado, also an E-F0, had winds of 65 MPH.
