JDA asking city to annex 133 acres of industrial park
The Grady County Joint Development Authority is prepared to make application to the city of Cairo requesting the annexation of Milestone Industrial Park Extension into the corporate limits of Cairo.
JDA Executive Director Chadd Mathis updated authority members Tuesday on the project. This would bring all of the authority’s industrial park property east of Hall Road into the city limits.
Mathis said a survey and the annexation request has been supplied to JDA attorney Thomas L. Lehman, who also serves as the city’s attorney, to “shepherd” the project through the process.
The authority is in the process of negotiating with a potential new business and intends to locate the facility in the Milestone Industrial Park extension.
On Tuesday, Mathis also reported he had presented Lehman with a memorandum of understanding between the authority and Project North.
“This is a performance and accountability agreement that details our commitments to them and their commitments to us,” Mathis said.
According to the JDA executive director, this agreement is part of the requirements should any One Georgia funding be invested in locating the firm in Grady County.
Mathis said he could not share details on the company or the negotiations, but said an announcement would be forthcoming.
The annexation would bring approximately 133 acres into the city limits if the annexation is approved.
