City calls for RR to maintain crossings

Cairo city councilmen want the CSX railroad to make repairs to railroad crossings within the city before motorists begin sending the city bills for cut tires.
Councilman Ernest Cloud complained Monday night that the crossing at Fourth Street N.W. has spikes that stick up and could cut tires of vehicles crossing the railroad track.
The Messenger found other crossings with similar issues including the crossing at Fourth Street S.E.
“The spikes are sticking up and the wooden cross tie is almost gone. It’s going to cut a tire and the owner will be bringing the bill to us. We need to let the railroad know,” Cloud said.
City Manager Chris Addleton said he would notify railroad officials this week.
