Auditions for play are next week
Calling all local actors young and otherwise, Syrup City Players is holding auditions this weekend for its fall production, “Cheaper by the Dozen.”
Veteran theatrical director Pat Orr is leading the show and says the script calls for two adult men and two adult women, along with children and youth between the ages of 5 and 20. Mrs. Josine Harrell is assisting Mrs. Orr.
There are two opportunities to audition, Sunday, July 27, 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., and Monday, July 28, 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. All auditions will be held in the Grady Room of Roddenbery Memorial Library. Those interested in trying out will receive materials when they arrive.
The play will take place Oct. 3 and 4 during Syrup City Players’ annual Fall outdoor theater experience, which will be held at Cairo’s Davis Park.
Mrs. Orr describes “Cheaper by the Dozen” as a sweet drama with several humorous moments. It is the true story of the Frank Gilbreth family, which included 12 freckle-faced children. Frank Gilbreth was a master of industrial efficiency who ran his family using the same efficiency tactics. The play is based on the book written by two of Gilbreth’s children, Frank Gilbreth and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey
