Candidate qualifying begins Monday

Qualifying for independent candidates for the Nov. general election and candidates interested in running in the special election for the District 3 Grady County board of education seat begins Monday at 8:30 a.m.
The final day of qualifying will be at noon on Friday, June 27.
Independent candidates seeking a county office must file a notice of candidacy with Election Superintendent Denise Maddox.
Qualifying also opens Monday for the Nov. 4 special election to fill the vacancy created by the unexpected resignation of District 3 Grady County School Board member Allen Jenkins on March 19. Jenkins’ term expires Dec. 31, 2016 and the school board earlier this year appointed Laura Register to fill the District 3 post until a special election could be held.
Mrs. Register has said she will qualify to run for the District 3 post in the Nov. 4 special election.
The qualifying fee is $36.
Qualifying will take place in the office of the Probate Judge in the Grady County Courthouse.
