New school calendar pushes spring break into late April 2015

The school calendar for the 2014-2015 term approved by the Grady County Board of Education pushes back the annual spring break to late April and just three weeks from the end of school.
The new calendar was developed by Superintendent Lee Bailey’s liaison committee, which is comprised of the teachers of the year from the system’s seven schools.
In presenting the calendar to the board Tuesday night, Assistant Superintendent Demetrius Cox said the calendar has a “little different look and feel.”
“The thought was to complete all CRCT testing before taking spring break and then come back have three weeks to reteach and retest,” Mrs. Cox said.
“A calendar is never perfect for everybody, but the liaison committee has had lots of input from principals and teachers. It has been tweaked and the committee has made changes,” Mrs. Cox added.
Superintendent Bailey told board members he approved of the proposed calendar and recommended the board adopt the new calendar.
School will begin on Friday, Aug 8 and will end on Friday, May 22.
Included in the calendar are four early release days for students. Those days are Friday, Oct. 10, Friday, Dec. 19, Friday, March 13, and Friday, May 22.
A two-day fall break is built into the calendar for Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 13 & 14. A full week for Thanksgiving break is also included in the new calendar.
Schools would close for Christmas on Dec. 19 and would reopen for students on Jan. 6.
Spring break would begin Monday, April 20 and would end Friday, April 24.
