Boys & Girls Club is awarded a Baseball Tomorrow Fund grant

THE JACKIE ROBINSON BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF CAIRO-GRADY COUNTY has earned a grant to renovate its baseball field and start a youth baseball and softball summer league.

The Marguerite Neel Williams Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Georgia announced recently that the Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club of Cairo-Grady County was awarded a grant in the amount of $47,288 from the Baseball Tomorrow Fund.
The grant will support the renovation of its youth baseball field and the creation of a youth baseball and softball summer league in the Cairo-Grady County area by providing funding for player and league equipment.
The grant will help the club complete a project that has made significant progress on its baseball field. To date, the club has installed field lighting equipment, renovated the dugouts and installed new bleachers. The final stage of the project includes the renovation of the playing surface.
The new baseball and softball program will serve approximately 200 economically disadvantaged youth in the community.
“We are very excited to provide a baseball and softball league for the youth that may not have had an opportunity to play before,” said Jeff Brown, director of the Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club of Cairo-Grady County. “I am very excited to be a part of something that will not only impact our children, but also the entire community.”
“The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is pleased to assist the Marguerite Neel Williams Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Georgia to complete the field renovation and to create a new youth baseball and softball program at the Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club,” said Cathy Bradley, executive director of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund. “We are happy to be a part of an effort to provide a quality, affordable baseball and softball program in the birthplace of the great Jackie Robinson.”
Other major supporters of the project include City of Cairo, Flowers Foods, Woodhaven Furniture Industries, Musco Lighting, Inc., and Scotts Miracle-Gro.
The Jackie Robinson Boys & Girls Club is still accepting in-kind and monetary contributions for field maintenance equipment and miscellaneous items such as baseballs and softballs. Those interested in donating to the project may contact Jeff Brown at 229-378-3099.
The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is a joint initiative between the Major League Baseball Players Association and Major League Baseball designed to promote the growth of youth baseball and softball throughout the world by awarding grants to support field renovation and construction projects, equipment and uniform purchases, coaches training material and other selected program expenses.
