Apply this week for new Habitat home

A new Habitat home is currently available and awaits the right size family. Due to the relocation of a Habitat homeowner, an existing home is available for immediate occupancy. Habitat for Humanity is recruiting for a partner family to purchase the three bedroom home.
Normally, Habitat selects a partner family and then builds a house to fit the family’s needs. In this case, Habitat is looking for a family to fit the house. The right size family will consist of 1-2 adults to share the master bedroom and 2-4 children to share the other two bedrooms. Same sex children can share a bedroom.
The house is not appropriate for a single person, a couple, or a couple with one child.
Interested families can apply in person at the Grady Room of the Roddenbery Memorial Library at two open application sessions:
Thursday, Nov. 14, from Noon until 4 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 16,  from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Applicants must bring copies of their current bills and income. Bring copies of payroll stubs, benefit eligibility letters, bank statements, utility bills, credit card bills, car payment receipts, or any other proof of income or debt. You will also be interviewed as a part of the application, so plan on spending about an hour when you apply. Income requirements vary depending on the size of family, but a family of four should earn between $13,700 and $36,500 per year.
“A Habitat homeowner undertakes a special responsibility when selected,” according to Kathy Harris, chapter secretary. “Their neighbors are basically loaning them money at no interest. Repayment of that debt can’t be taken lightly.  Habitat provides an alternative to people whose incomes don’t qualify them for typical loans. They have enough income to be able to afford a house payment of $375 per month, but not enough to get a typical mortgage. In addition to being able to afford the house, the applicants must also demonstrate current need for adequate housing and be willing to put work into the project,” she added.
