Wild West Casino Night is this Saturday
The saloon doors will swing wide open for cowpokes and western darlings when they come out to the Wild Wild West Saloon and Gambling Room Saturday. The western themed event is a benefit for a Grady County Scholarship at Thomas University.
The evening, held at Cairo’s Grady Cultural Center, will feature gambling tables, a silent auction, a buffet meal and full bar beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Rocky Ford Ramblers will provide live music. The group includes Paul Massey, a Grady County native, TU alumnus and member of the Georgia Bluegrass Hall of Fame.
“Dust off your boots and cowboy hats as we look to have a great evening of fun, entertainment, and excellent food in the Wild Wild West, while raising money to fund scholarships for Grady County students attending Thomas University – a very worthwhile cause,” said Charles Davis, Chair of the Grady Casino Night Committee and a member of the Thomas University Board of Trustees.
The Wild Wild West Saloon and Gambling Room is the second Casino Night fundraising event for Thomas University held in Cairo. The first event – the Speakeasy Casino Night – was held Aug. 25, 2012, also at the Grady Cultural Center in Cairo. It featured a ’20s speakeasy theme, and attendees were encouraged to dress in period costume.
“Last year’s event was a roaring success, thanks to the generosity and support of many businesses and citizens in Grady and Thomas counties. Education is the key that unlocks a world of opportunity, paying huge dividends as scholarship recipients place themselves in a position to give back to their local communities. Thomas University is a local jewel, offering a number of degree programs, and it is located within 30 minutes of Cairo. This event offers one of the best ways to help those with the desire to obtain their degree,” Davis said.
The Thomas University Grady County Scholarship funds were raised through the Casino Night event hosted by Thomas University and the Grady County Casino Night Scholarship Committee. The committee consists of Kevin Cauley, Charles Davis, Dot Moses-James, Linda Drew Johnson, Lequita LeGette, Beth Wight, Randy Wind, Shanna Derby and Frankie Strickland.
