Rescheduled Relay for Life is this Saturday

The rescheduled Relay for Life is slated to take place this Saturday at the Cairo High School track with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. The annual fund raiser for the American Cancer Society was originally scheduled for May 3, but was postponed due to forecasts of poor weather.
The rescheduled Relay will kick off at 10 a.m., Saturday, and conclude at 10 p.m. After opening ceremonies, special Survivor and Caregiver laps will take place.
Activities are planned throughout the day, including a “No Talent, Talent Show” at noon and Luminary Ceremony at 9 p.m. when all of the lights are turned off except the glow of the luminary bags, torches and glow balloons. Glow balloons are a new addition to the Relay this year. People purchase each light in memory or honor of someone touched by cancer. Luminary bags are $5; balloons are $25; and torches are $50.
Throughout the day there will be food, beverages, games for kids and entertainment.
Organizers are hoping to raise $64,000 at this year’s Relay.
The American Cancer Society celebrated its 100th Anniversary on May 22. The organization uses donations for cancer related research and services.
