Car Rally is just over two weeks away

It’s just over two weeks away before the 25th anniversary of the Great Southern Antique Car Rally is celebrated by Grady Countians and hundreds of rally participants.
The 25th edition of the rally coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette, which makes it only fitting that the Corvette is the featured car for this year’s milestone event.
Hobson Chevrolet is the title sponsor along with the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce. Additional support is being provided by Stallings Motors, T&S Motorsports, Classic Consoles, Moore Motors, Ridley’s Automotive, CNS Cable, Cairo Kiwanis Club and the Cairo Antique Auto Museum.
This year’s rally kicks off on Friday night, May 10. Participants will enjoy a BBQ dinner at the Grady Cultural Center and then the entire community is invited downtown to witness the popular gas light parade.
According to chamber officials food and drinks will be available downtown Friday night.
Then immediately following the parade, South Broad Street will be closed down and the Just Us band will perform at the street dance sponsored by CNS Cable.
Then on Saturday, rally participants will be treated to a breakfast at the Grady Cultural Center at 8 a.m.
Participants will depart for the poker rally all over Grady County at 9 a.m. and the antique autos not part of the poker rally will go on display at Davis Park beginning at 10 a.m.
At noon, participants will be treated to a hamburger cookout. Prizes and awards will be presented at 2 p.m. and the day will close out with tours of the Cairo Antique Auto Museum.
Already 103 participants have pre-registered and chamber officials expect the traditional last minute surge in registration.
