Festival concert is this Sunday

Did you know that the month of March is officially recognized as Music In Our Schools Month? What better way to emphasize MIOSM than to find our extended Grady County Band Program preparing to participate in the prestigious Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation. Otherwise known as “Band Festival” by instrumental musicians across Grady County this year’s event will again be hosted by Cairo High School March 13 through March 15.
The three day event will feature 42 Concert Bands, 14 bands each day from G.M.E.A. District 2.
The first band to perform on Wednesday, March 13 will be the Whigham 7th & 8th Grade Band under the direction of Mr. Brad Moore. Their stage performance is scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
Immediately following at 9:30 a.m. ,the Shiver 6th Grade Band under the direction of Mrs. Amy Amaro will be featured on stage.
The first band after lunch on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. will be the Washington Middle School Band under the direction of Mr. Patrick Ballew.
Following at 1:30 p.m. will be the Shiver 7th & 8th Grade Band again under the direction of Mrs. Amy Amaro.
Thursday, March 14 will bring the performances of Cairo High School’s Bands under the direction of Michael Thomas. The combined freshmen & sophomore bands comprising the Symphonic Band will perform on stage at 1:30 p.m. while the CHS Symphony Band (juniors and seniors) will perform at 3:30 p.m.
As always the performances are all open to the public at no admission costs. In fact the students and directors invite and ask for your support in joining our bands as they perform for the judges.
“There is nothing as exciting as having the curtain open in the CHS auditorium to experience a robust welcome and support of our community,” said CHS Director Michael Thomas.
“This is what brings out the best in our student musicians and shows awesome pride in our community,”he added.
With the finishing details being attended to in the musical programs also note that Cairo High School Bands will be in concert for their traditional pre-Festival concert. The bands will present their Festival programs in a special performance for our community Sunday afternoon, March 10, at 2:00 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium.
