Enjoy tasty treats at Taste of the Town

Taste of the Town-Spring Sampler organizers have released the names of those businesses and individuals who are participating in the local food festival next month.
So far, there are 14 entries slated to serve up some of their signature dishes at the fund raiser for the Grady General Support League. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 2, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., at the Cairo Woman’s Club.
There are restaurants and local home cooks who are participating in the event including: Sandra Reid who will serve a spinach shrimp dip; Stacy Munford, andouille sausage jambalaya; Bob Anderson, gumbo; Drew Pyrz, chilli; Howard Thrower and Bob Kral, BBQ; Delicious Delights, a sweet treat; Maryland Fried Chicken, chicken strips; Jose’s, chips and salsa; Mr. Chick, spring surprise; Jen’s, fried rice; Pickle Patch, spring surprise; Country Time BBQ and Seafood, BBQ; Teresa Pearce of Aunt Shirley’s Brittle, peanut brittle; and Beth Skaja of Grady General Hospital’s Fifth Street Cafe, shrimp and grits.
In addition, a cupcake war between the various hospital departments including volunteers with the hospital’s Ladies Auxiliary, will take place at the gazebo of adjacent Davis Park.
Cairo Fire Chief Jim Fielding and local baker and restaurateur Kim Huggins will judge the cupcakes to determine who wins bragging rights. Mini versions of the cupcakes will be served to those in attendance.
Cairo High School’s jazz band will enhance the evening’s ambiance, performing in the courtyard.
Advance tickets are $20 each and may be purchased from any board member of Grady General Support League or from the following locations: Grady General Hospital; Capital City Bank; Kingfish Korners; Cairo Eye Care; Hester’s Insurance Agency; Dollar Business Solutions; Center Drugs; United National Bank; and the Chamber of Commerce.
