Over seven miles of city streets to be paved
Just under seven-and-a-half miles of city streets are scheduled to be paved this spring as the city of Cairo moves forward with its multiphase paving project.
The low bidder for the Phase 2 streets is The Scruggs Company, and the Cairo City Council accepted the company’s low bid of $696,128.66 during a special called meeting last Thursday.
The other bids received were $818,868.15 from Oxford Construction Company and $1,026,745.00 from Peavy & Son Construction.
According to Cairo City Manager Chris Addleton, 7.45 miles of streets in all sections of the city will be paved as part of Phase 2.
All or sections of the following streets are scheduled to be resurfaced:
Northwest section – 14th Ave. N.W., 15th Ave. N.W., 13th St. N.W., 14th St. N.W., 15th St. N.W., McQuaig St., 12th Ave. N.W., and 6th Ave. N.W.
Northeast section – Old Cannon Ford, Hill Crest Drive, Highland St., 3rd St. N.E., 5th Ave. N.E., 4th Ave. N.E., 3rd Ave. N.E., 2nd Ave. N.E., 1st St. N.E., 4th Ave. N.E., and 5th Ave. N.E.
Southwest section – 11th St. S.W., Legion Blvd., Westbrook St., Hunter St., 14th St. S.W., Lewis St., 4th Ave. S.W., 3rd Ave. S.W., and 15th St. S.W.
Southeast section – Ben Hill Ave., Platt Ave., Stone Ave., Grady St., Emerson Ave., Hansell St., and 4th St. S.E.
The street resurfacing is being paid for with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax proceeds.
